Food & Drinks Worksheets: Picture to Word Matching

Here goes another type of matching worksheets that I traditionally design for the major topics I introduce to my students. These are created to help kids remember some 59 English names of food and drinks. You can find the whole list of words featured in my printable food & drinks kit by visiting the first blog post dedicated to it.

Buy the whole food & drinks kit in printer-friendly PDF format
The kit includes flashcards, 4 types of worksheets, dominoes and bingo game

These colorful worksheets ask kids to match a picture of a drink or a food item to one of three words. This activity helps kids form a stronger association between a word and the object it identifies. Focusing on words and related pictures, beginner students better memorize the food and drinks vocabulary which they will need in the future for more advanced assignments such as talking and writing about their favorite foods, cooking and eating out.

Transportation Worksheets: Crossword Puzzles

Crossword puzzles are another kind of worksheets I love. They are very effective for vocabulary memorization as they involve writing words with pen or pencil. Every language teacher knows than handwriting helps boost memory and the ability to retain the vocabulary. When solving a crossword puzzle, a student recalls the previously introduced vocabulary, re-processes it into words by writing them down, and re-reads those words multiple times in the course of accomplishing the task. So much brain activity involved! This kind of tasks are great for teaching kids to write and spell words. And, of course, I designed a couple of crossword worksheets for the transportation topic.

The kit includes 4 types of worksheets, flashcards, dominoes game and bingo game

As usual, I only publish the worksheets featuring American English words. There are also transportation crossword worksheets offering British English variations of some words. Those are available in my premium transportation kit that English teachers can buy here.

Rain Song for Kids

Autumn (Fall) is always considered to be a rainy season. Many people associate rain with a gloomy, sad weather when nobody has a desire to go outside. In my song I disagree with this opinion. The boy who is singing the song (as seen in the video below) personifies all children’s spontaneity and confidence in the future. He is happy in spite of any bad weather and any such troubles. That’s why teaching children and working close with them is an exciting and inspiring profession.

I wrote this rain song in one of such gloomy autumn days but I think it can be used also in spring and summer to learn the weather vocabulary.

I Am not Afraid of Rain
(Song Lyrics)

I am not afraid of rain,
‘Cause I have a big umbrella.
Outside the whole day
I will play in any weather.
In the rain I’m gonna walk
Let people say at home it’s better,
I will listen to the raindrops talk
Petter-patter, Petter-patter, Petter-patter.

As always, I would like to suggest  you a few worksheets to practice rainy weather vocabulary with your own children as well as students.

Worksheet 1: In this task children should match the rain vocabulary with the corresponding pictures in order to remember words on the tipic.
