Halloween can be a great excuse to bring a little seasonal fun into an English lesson, especially with younger learners. 🎃

If you teach kindergarten or elementary-age ESL/EFL students, you probably know that young children learn new vocabulary much more easily when they can see, say, and do something with the words. That's why I like combining simple English activities with coloring.

Today I'm sharing 5 free printable Halloween coloring pages for young English learners. They feature friendly little monsters exploring colorful autumn forest scenes, but these aren't just ordinary coloring sheets. Each page also includes a short fill-in-the-blanks vocabulary activity based on the objects children can see in the picture.

The idea is simple: learn a few fall words, practice them in context, and then have fun coloring the picture.

As we are getting closer to the end of fall I'd like to share some fall / autumn flashcards for fellow ESL teachers to use during the last month of the season.

I really like this time of the year where I live. It's pretty much colorful and the weather is quite enjoyable. I's neither hot nor cold and the trees are bright with red, yellow and brown leaves. So fall / autumn is definitely worth dedicating a lesson or two to learn some English vocabulary related to the season. Autumn (fall) is the season of colourful leaves. All children love walking in parks full of rich colours and pick up some crunchy leaves to put them together in a wonderful multicolour bunch. In my song I tried to convey the atmosphere of a warm autumn day as well as the children’s joy during the leaf-fall time.
