This vowel team set features a kid-friendly reading passage that reinforces the “oo” sound in a meaningful context. Titled “The Flood in the Woods,” the story follows a group of animals — moose, raccoon, goose, and kangaroo — as they try to reach their school through a flooded forest. Along the way, readers will encounter a wide variety of OO vowel team words, naturally embedded in the storyline.
The passage includes words like flood, foot, book, boots, school, moon, balloon, cook, door, floor, and even blood — all used in an age-appropriate and friendly manner that’s easy for children to understand.
Beyond phonics, the story also teaches cooperation, empathy, and resilience. When a small animal hurts its foot on a hidden rock, the other animals quickly help with a bandage, and Moose proudly carries the injured friend to school on his strong back.
