Christmas Worksheets: Matching Pictures to Words

Matching pictures to words is another fun way to help kids memorize English vocabulary. Such printables make a part of my Christmas kit for which I have created a set of worksheets designed for teachers to diversify their classes dedicated to Christmas. I often use the kit during the holiday season. My little students love solving Christmas crosswords, finding words in the word search puzzles, and matching words and images with my picture-to-word and word-to-picture matching worksheets.

All my Christmas worksheets are based on the vocabulary introduced with a set of printable flashcards. The vocabulary can initially be strengthened with my Christmas dominoes. There is another fun game I designed for the purpose of memorizing and retaining the vocabulary – Christmas bingo. Those printable teaching materials cover some 50 nouns related to modern Christmas traditions, food and seasonal clothing. I hope my colorful games, flashcards and worksheets will help ESL teachers bring more fun into language learning during the most wonderful time of the year.

It’s not long before the Christian world will be getting ready for the most wonderful time of the year – Christmas. It will be a busy time for educators too. As an ESL teacher I dedicate a number of lessons to this major holiday. The occasion is good for getting kids acquainted with Christmas traditions in English-speaking countries as well as for introduction of some useful English vocabulary to students. I have designed a teaching materials kit to help kids learn and memorize the vocabulary related to Christmas, celebration customs and the season of the year. In this first blog post dedicated to Christmas ESL materials I’d like to share my set of printable Christmas flashcards designed to introduce the vocabulary.

Snowflakes Song for Kids

It's winter now and we have a wonderful opportunity to teach our children some winter vocabulary. One of the most fascinating things about winter is, of course, snow and those tiny beautiful snowflakes falling softly from the sky. So I would like to share my Snowflakes Song with fellow teachers and parents. This song is very simple and can be used for preschool and kindergarten children from 3 to 6 years old.

Here are the Snowflakes Song lyrics

Snowflakes, snowflakes,
Falling, falling, falling, falling to the ground.
Snowflakes, snowflakes,
Flying, flying, flying, flying all around.

Snowflakes, snowflakes,
Dance in the air.
Snowflakes, snowflakes,
Everywhere.
Snowflakes, snowflakes,
Fly around.
Snowflakes, snowflakes,
Touch the ground.

Snowflakes, snowflakes,
Falling, falling, falling, falling to the ground.
Snowflakes, snowflakes,
Flying, flying, flying, flying all around.

Calm and Peaceful Christmas Song

Christmas is coming! This holiday is always a special time of peaceful family atmosphere and romantic feelings. Our new song about Christmas will make you feel warmer during these winter days.

The lyrics of the song were written by my husband some 10 years ago when he was a student. And today we decided to turn his little Christmas poem into a song that I believe will appeal to both kids and adults. The song sounds as calm as a lullaby so I hope children are going to like it. And grown-ups will certainly love the message of the song calling for peace in the world.

The Christmas song lyrics:

Snow is falling from the sky,
Turning round like in the dance,
Landing on the nose of mine,
Melting on the skin at once.

It’s a lovely Christmas tree
Whitened with some fluffy snow.
I just have a little dream
To take this beauty to my home.

Everyone will jump with joy,
Singing around the big green tree,
And I’ll give you a Christmas toy
If you give a kiss to me.

You and me will dance all night
Cheek to cheek, and hand in hand.
Hearts are warm and eyes are bright,
Let this party have no end.

Christmas is a real dream
Santa visits our place,
Brings us presents and ice-cream,
Smiles shine on every face.

Let the people of the world
Stop the wars and any fight,
Thank the Virgin and the Lord,
In the way we do tonight.

Peace and love will come to Earth
That’s for what we all should pray,
In the day of Jesus’ birth
War and hatred stay away.

Christmas Fun Song for Kids (+ Flashcards)

Hurray! Christmas season has come! It is the most loved and exciting time of the year that requires an intensive preparation. All children must know what is needed to feel a special and unique atmosphere of Christmas. But if you are still not sure what one needs for a fun holiday, my Christmas Fun Song for kids will certainly help you out. Just listen carefully!

Here are the Christmas Fun Song lyrics

What Do You Need for Christmas Fun?

What do you need for Christmas fun,
Christmas fun, Christmas fun?
What do you need for Christmas fun
On this frosty Christmas day?

A pail of sand?
An Easter egg?
A motor boat
Or an ice-cream cone?

No! No! No! No! No!

A holly wreath,
A jolly reindeer,
Christmas cookies
A row of stockings,
Christmas tree,
Lots of gifts,
Outside we are caroling.

What do you need for Christmas fun,
Christmas fun, Christmas fun?
What do you need for Christmas fun
On this frosty Christmas day?

A watermelon?
A big umbrella?
A birthday cake?
A farmer rake?

No! No! No! No! No!

Santa’s sleigh,
Some merry elves,
Snowflakes,
Silver bells,
Snowman,
Candy canes,
Many friends to sing and play.

I'm a Happy Snowman - Winter Song for Children

Winter is coming. And who is one of the most popular winter characters all children love? Yes, it’s a snowman! Since the times of the “Frosty the Snowman” cartoon and song the snowman has been very popular with kids in English speaking countries. I decided to write my own snowman song adapted for little children who only begin to study English as their second language. My song is called “I’m a happy Snowman” and you can listen to it in the video below.

Snowman Song Lyrics

I’m a happy Snowman,
Big and fat.
Here are my mittens,
My scarf and my hat.
I’m a happy Snowman,
Here is my nose.
I am all made of snow
From my head to my toes.
I am all made of snow
From my head to my toes.

Snowman song lyrics

Winter is a season when we can talk about many things with our children. The first thing is ,of course, playing in the snow. Here are some ideas and worksheets you can use during your English lessons.

Worksheet 1: This task aims at practicing the winter clothes vocabulary. Children should help the Snowman, the main character of my song, match the pictures of winter clothes with the letters they begin with. This is a very simple task which can be done even by preschoolers.
