Prepositions Worksheets
As the readers of my blog know, I do my best to make my English classes as fun as possible for my young students. It’s important for my students who learn English as foreign language to love English classes from the very beginning as it motivates them to make efforts in memorizing unknown words and spending time figuring out the tricky grammar of the new language. So I tend to create my own printable worksheets based on tried-and-true exercises I had a positive experience with when teaching English to elementary school kids. I try to make my worksheets as child-appealing and fun as possible. In this blog post I’d like to share my recently created worksheets designed to teach English prepositions of place.
I designed this printable 12-page activity book to be used for my English classes dedicated to prepositions of place. The PDF-based book features exercises that help elementary learners practice usage of such prepositions as on, in, under (below), behind, in front of, between, next to (beside), near, above. The worksheets also help me introduce the there is / there are structure to kids as well as revise the verb to be in the third person.
The preposition worksheets include matching activities, filling in the blanks exercises, multiple choice exercises and some others. I hope my fellow EFL and ESL teachers will find my printable prepositions worksheets useful for their classes too. Here are some pages from the activity book that my fellow English teachers can use right away. If you like them, you are welcome to buy all the worksheets in a printer-ready PDF file.

Alphabet Games and Activities
I do my best to excite my grade 1 students about learning English from the first months of studying in my classroom. Since we usually begin with learning English alphabet, I offer them different kinds of games and activities to make learning letters even more fun. There is a set of printable games and activities I designed to help my young students learn English ABC in a fun and memorable way. I’d like to share my alphabet learning printables in this blog post.
Printable Alphabet Game
This printable board game helps elementary school students remember how uppercase and lowercase letters look like in English.
My ABC games and activities mostly help kids learn to recognize uppercase and lowercase letters as well as memorize basic words that start with this or another letter. Therefore many of the games and activities suggest matching uppercase letters with lowercase letters and letters with pictures representing the words to be memorized. So here are the printables.

170+ English Phonics Worksheets
English language is notorious for its weird phonetics. All too often learning
how to spell English words can be frustrating for non-native speakers. Being an
EFL teacher working with elementary and middle school kids, I learned it the
hard way. Many of my young students used to get bored or frustrated with all
this crazy phonics stuff. Indeed, it seems that there are as many exceptions as
there are rules in English phonetics. Even adult students find their heads
spinning when they learn that words floor, flood, food are pronounced
differently. There are plenty of such cases when the same letter or combination
of letters form different sounds and often inexplicably. It can pretty much
confuse kids who are just starting to learning English in non-English speaking
countries. It is also a big challenge for EFL and ESL teachers because they have
to add as much fun to their lessons as possible to make kids fall in love with
learning English from the very beginning. Unfortunately, there is not too much
fun in learning baffling English phonics rules and numerous exceptions.
Therefore I have designed another collection of printable phonics worksheets to
help my young students learn how to correctly write and pronounce a lot of
tricky English words. These worksheets are designed to make English phonetics
less boring and intimidating. The worksheets are also great for memorizing such
words and thus strengthening students' vocabulary thanks to many colorful pictures that I used to design these teaching printables.
I offer my students the
phonics worksheets after I introduce and discuss the key phonics rules including
how to pronounce English diphthongs, digraphs, blends etc. I use my printable sound charts and phonics posters for the introduction.
The collection includes
more than 170 printable phonics worksheets that offer mostly matching
activities. There is a set of worksheets that help my students memorize symbols
of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). The IPA is very important for
non-native English learners as major dictionaries use the IPA for transcription
of words. The IPA phonetic transcription is frequently the only way EFL students
can learn the right way to pronounce this or another English word.
Matching Worksheets
My phonics
worksheets offer two types of matching tasks:
- matching API symbols to words;
- matching words having the same sound.

Reading Comprehension Worksheets: Food and Cooking
Food and cooking are popular topics for English classes at school. That’s why I keep on designing printables dedicated to these topics to make my classes more fun and engaging for my students in elementary and middle school. If you follow my blog, you might know that I have created a large printable kit that includes worksheets, flashcards and games dedicated to food. I have recently decided to add some reading comprehension passages and related worksheets to my collection of ESL/EFL resources designed to help children learn and expand the food and cooking vocabulary.

Telling Time on Clock - Rhyme-Based Worksheets
I designed a dozen printable worksheets based on my nursery rhyme that I had written to teach my young student to tell the time on a clock in English. The worksheets are colorful and child-appealing. They offer a super easy activity for kids who begin learning English and telling time.
Every worksheet has two text-and-picture parts featuring a four-liner of the nursery rhyme and a clock image part that should be cut out. The clock shows the time from one o'clock to midnight. The teacher asks kids to match a clock part with the correct text-and-picture part. The clock only shows the whole hours without minutes, so the worksheets can be used as one of basic activities at the start of learning time.

American English vs. British English Matching Cards
Thanks to Hollywood English language got pretty much Americanized. Even in the conservative United Kingdom young people use more and more American words. Non-native speakers mix American English and British English very frequently too, mostly unwittingly. However it is important for English learners to be able to tell apart American and British variations of some key words in order to use them correctly. After all, we want to sound properly and accurately to the audience we communicate with because all too often our language defines our competence and the first impression of us. Therefore I offer my young students a large set of printable cards designed to help them memorize some commonly used words that differ from each other in American and British English.
The American English vs. British English set features 84 word pairs. The cards can be used both as visual aids to introduce the relevant vocabulary and as a set-up for word-to-picture matching activities. Such visually enhanced activities tend to be conducive to long-term memory. By using these cards, EFL and ESL teachers can raise children’s awareness of differences between American English and British English as well as expand students’ vocabulary with some useful words.
This is how my printable American English vs. British English cards look like.

Global Warming Reading Comprehension, Worksheets, Flashcards
The issue of global warming has been widely discussed at the highest governmental and scientific levels recently. The issue is indeed very serious. It threatens with a lot of negative consequences for nature and humans. We can only hope that the future generation will be more wise and inventive than us to successfully mitigate the effects of global warming. Our children’s and grandchildren’s well-being is largely dependent on how well they understand the problem and the ways to tackle it. As a teacher and a mother I simply cannot ignore the dangers of climate change caused by human-induced global warming. I ought to educate my students about the issue and the related risks they will have to face and hopefully find a solution to eliminate or reduce those risks. There are not enough teaching materials on the topic adapted for the classroom that can be found on the Internet, so I decided to create my own printable global warming kit for my English classes. The kit is based on short reading comprehension passages and also includes a few worksheets and a set of printable flashcards to be used for vocabulary introduction and discussion of the topic.
Reading Comprehension Passages
The global warming kit is built around three reading comprehension passages. The first and the largest one introduces the global warming issue in general, and the other two briefly tell about the greenhouse effect and the problem of ocean acidification caused by the increase of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere. The texts are followed by questions and assignments.

CVC Words Worksheets: Short A Sound
Reading CVC words is one of the first activities that educators offer children when teaching them how to sound out English words. Those consonant-vowel-consonant words are short and simple and therefore they are great for helping kids learn to read letters and pronounce sounds correctly. The CVC words are so simple that some parents use them to teach their children basic literacy from as early as four years old. And of course teachers offer a lot of CVC words activities to preschool, pre-k, kindergarten students. As an EFL teacher I use all sorts of CVC worksheets, games and other activities when teaching elementary school kids.

Most CVC words activities suggest reading the words aloud to pronounce consonant and short vowel sounds. If there is a mistake, a teacher or other students help the reader. Anytime we read the words though, kids start asking whether these are real words and what they mean. I seems that sometimes they got frustrated with dealing with so many words which meaning they don’t know. So I’ve got this idea that I could design printable CVC words worksheets featuring pictures of some words. Thus my students could read the words and build their basic vocabulary from the very outset of studying English.
So I’ve designed a few worksheets that include a list CVC words that can be illustrated with pictures and word-to-picture matching activities. Today, my students can read CVC words, understand their meaning and build their vocabulary by memorizing some simple words through matching worksheets. Kids love more visual CVC worksheets and they are more eager to read words with accompanying pictures.
