Food and Drinks Vocabulary Posters
There will be a lot of holidays and celebrations till the end of the year. And the best attribute of any holiday is, of course, tasty food. Besides major holidays such as Thanksgiving Day and Christmas, there are also a few celebrations dedicated to food according to my classroom calendar. These are National Sandwich Day on November 3, National Cake Day on November 26, National Cookie Day on December 4, and National Cupcake Day on December 15. We usually talk a lot about food with my students these days and I display my printable food and drinks vocabulary posters on the classroom walls.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Activities
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is one of the children's books that I frequently use for my English classes with kids who learn English as a foreign language. The book is short and simple enough to read with elementary school students. Educators and parents read the story of the very hungry caterpillar with preschoolers and even toddlers in English speaking countries. However, since I teach English to children who are just starting to learn English, I mostly use the book for my classes with 1st graders. And I have designed some printable activities, worksheets, flashcards, and a poster to get the maximum out of the book as an EFL teacher. So I'd like to share some of the visually enhanced activities I use along with "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" book to teach English to children.

The food and drinks topic is among the key subjects in my English syllabus. Knowing names of food and drinks is a must for every English learner. As a rule, one learns English to be able to communicate with people and travel all over the world with as little language barrier as possible. Food is the essential one have to take care of whenever one goes. Trying local foods is one of the most pleasant moments of any trip. And we often welcome foreign guests with food and drinks, so we have to be able to offer them a treat in the language they understand, and English proves to be the language understood by more than 1.5 billion people. Therefore if one knows some English food & drinks vocabulary, chances are he or she will enjoy partaking of a meal in a good company of friendly foreigners. Sharing food together is a good way to make new friends and business partners.
I’ll be publishing some of my printable food and drinks worksheets, games and flashcards in the upcoming posts. The entire collection constitutes the food & drinks kit that includes 14 picture-to-word matching worksheets (4 for British English vocabulary), 13 word-to-picture matching worksheets (4 for British English vocabulary), 7 word search puzzles (1 for British English vocabulary), 8 crossword puzzles (1 for British English vocabulary), 15 bingo cards, 64 domino cards (with some British English variations), 63 flashcards (with some British English variations).

Two Aliens. Song for Children about Cute Aliens
This song about two cute aliens is my husband's contribution to my English teaching activity. My husband works for a web design company as a translator while I teach English to children. He often gets inspired with the success of our Youtube channel where we post my ESL songs for which my husband often creates animation videos. He also get inspired by our four years old son who is constantly surrounded with kids' stuff and tries to learn English through songs, cartoons and children's books. So the atmosphere of the early childhood education in our house seems to be contagious because my husband has made a decision not only to help me create videos for my songs but also write his own songs for kids. And he wrote lyrics for a few new songs I am going to show in this blog. I think these songs are really good.
His first song is called "Two Aliens". This song is about two cute little aliens who visit children on the Earth to play with them and eat some yummies. When he showed this song to me I understood that it could be a really powerful teaching material for teachers working with elementary school kids and older children because the song story is really cute and funny. All teachers know that fun is always great for any kind of lessons with kids and especially for teaching languages. Fun helps create excitement and human brain remembers moments of excitement more effectively than colorless and boring situations. Memorizing things while playing fun games and singing fun songs during lessons is much easier especially for little ones. My husband had created drawings of two cute alien characters and used them to make this little cartoon for even more fun during my English lessons.
This is yet another song created by our whole family (the others being the Fruits and Berries song, the Forest Animals song and the Dinosaur song): my husband contributed his lyrics, illustrations and animation; I composed the music and recorded my singing, and you can hear our four years old son as the cute alien's voice in the video above.
