Clothing Song for Kids

I've decided to cooperate with another ESL teacher living in my city to expend the creative mind involved in my teaching activities and share new ideas with the English teachers' community. Her name is Julia Hetman and this post introduces her first contribution to my blog and YouTube channel. She has written lyrics for my new children's song. This song is about clothing and can be used for corresponding English lessons covering the clothes vocabulary. The lyrics are also good to teach the Present Continuous (Progressive) tense to as little kids as preschoolers if not toddlers. I asked Julia to write an article giving ESL teachers an idea on how the song can be used. So here is her article.

This information is meant for educators and parents who are constantly seeking new ways to make English classes more exciting and productive for children.

This article has to do with the Present Continuous tense, which is one of the most widespread and frequently used grammar tenses.

The rhymes given below can well illustrate the essence of the Present Continuous, which serves to describe the action happening at or around the time of speaking:
Tom is playing,
Fred is eating.
Nick is writing,
Bob is sleeping.
The sun is shining
And I am smiling.

‘Where are you going, my little cat?’-
‘I’m going to town, to buy me a hat.’-
‘What? A cat in a hat? A hat for a cat?
Who ever saw a cat in a hat?’

Young learners often confuse the usage of the auxiliaries is, am and are, though. I have written lyrics of a simple clothing song containing lots of repetitions which will help youngsters learn how to make questions and answer them in the affirmative.

Spring Song for Children (+ Worksheets)

Spring is a long-expected season of the year especially in those parts of the world where winter is cold and snowy. So spring is a big deal for kids over there. People welcome the nature resurrection and work days that are coming back. Sure, the topic of spring cannot be missed in schools and kindergartens all over the world. There are lots of things to talk about spring during English lessons with kids.

To help fellow ESL teachers make their English lessons dedicated to the spring season even more interesting I and my husband have written and animated our own spring song. My husband is the proud author of lyrics but we would have no problem if you use this song for your lessons with kids as long as you indicate our blog as the source. So here are the spring song video and lyrics:

It’s spring,
All trees are getting green.
It’s spring,
It’s such a lovely scene
It’s spring, it’s spring, it’s spring.

Dinosaur Song for Preschool Kids

The dinosaur song is our new family project. I have written this song to make my English lesson with preschoolers more interesting and engaging. The mysterious world of dinosaurs is always fascinating for kids! It is fun to have an imaginary travel with children to prehistoric times when those huge and awesome creatures populated the Earth. Children can learn many things about our planet, nature and animals. So let’s get our time machine together and visit a cute stegosaurus family that lived during the Jurassic period some 150 millions years ago.

This song is very simple and perfectly adapted for young English learners from 2 to 5 years old. Our son who is 3,5 years old is very fond of dinosaurs and he loved this song very much. That’s why we decided to perform it together. I think making such family project encourages kids to learn more about our world and to master the language with the help of music, singing and dramatizing interesting stories.

The animation was created by my husband. Our family friend – artist Igor Lukyanov – helped us create some cute illustrations of the main characters for this song video.

Here are the Dinosaur Song lyrics:

Butterfly Song (+ Coloring Pages and Worksheets)

It's springtime. It's time of flowers and butterflies. And it's also time to learn some spring vocabulary during English lessons with kids. I wrote a very simple song about butterflies a year ago which I used to teach English to preschoolers in spring. So I would like to share this butterfly song and some printable activities with other educators and parents who teach their own children at home.

Butterfly Song

Down the valley,
In the meadow
I saw pretty butterflies,
They were flying in the air
They were flying very high.

On the flowers
Up the trees,
In the gentle morning breeze,
Butterflies, you’re so cute,
I would like to fly with you.

I have prepared a few coloring pages and worksheets to go with this song. They are rather simple and can be used for preschool and kindergarten activities.

Forest Animals Song for Kids

I think there is no a child in the whole world who doesn’t love animals. That’s why I decided to create a new song about our children's animal friends. This time my song features animals living in the forest. From the very childhood people meet forest animal characters in children’s stories and fairy-tales. The most lucky kids can observe wildlife in animals' habitat or in a zoo. My 3,5 years old son loves all kinds of animals but for the time being we have no chance to visit at least a zoo as we live in a relatively small town where there is no way to see real wild animals. Anyway, I do believe that animals are the most exciting and appealing creatures in children's life. That's why I hope that kids from all over the world will love my song. The cute thing about the song video is that my little son sings the last refrain. This video was created by our entire family. I had written lyrics and music, then I sang the song with my son and my husband created animal images and the animation for the following video.

My song introduces animals of middle latitudes. They are common both in European and North American forests. While listening to my song and working with a great variety of worksheets, which I would like to share with educators from all over the world in my next posts, children will learn names of forest animals in English as well as facts about where these animals live and what they can do.

So here are the Forest Animals song lyrics:

1
Discover who lives in the forest
In the heart of a deep, green forest,
In the holes and in the trees
I can easily tell you this.

Refrain:
Foxes and bears,
Squirrels and hares,
Wolves, snakes, and birds.
Moles and deer,
Hedgehogs and beavers,
Butterflies and frogs.

2
Discover who lives in the forest
In the heart of a deep, green forest,
On the ground and in the air,
Animals everywhere.

They run very fast
And hide in the grass,
Walk, jump and crawl.
They swim in the river
And fly with no fear
Let’s name them all:

Refrain:
Foxes and bears,
Squirrels and hares,
Wolves, snakes, and birds.
Moles and deer,
Hedgehogs and beavers,
Butterflies and frogs.

Arctic Animals Song for Children

Winter is the most wonderful season, especially when you are a child. I think all children look forward to the winter coming so that they can play in the snowy fairytale. Many kids even dream of the fascinating trip to the North country covered with deep snow to see Santa Clause, reindeer and elves on the Christmas Eve.

When the holidays are over we can continue exploring this marvelous land with deep snowdrifts, huge icebergs in the frozen sea and the magic shining of Northern Lights. Children can also learn what animals live there and how they can survive in the environmental conditions which seem to be harsh for human beings.

All these things you can find in my song “Far away in the Arctic” which will help your children to discover this fantastic land.

Far away in the Arctic

Here are the song lyrics

Every time winter comes
And days are getting short
I remember the Arctic land
Somewhere in the North
At the pole it’s freezing cold
There’re neither flowers nor trees
Only icebergs made of ice and snow
Floating in the sea.

Refrain:
Far away in the Arctic
On the top of the world
Miles and miles of frozen sea
The wind is bitter cold.
Far away in the Arctic
Northern Lights
Shining brightly in the sky
All through the night.

This remote icy land
Is the home for noisy seals,
Reindeer and walruses
With tusks and chubby cheeks,
Small and hardy arctic foxes
With the warmest coat,
Strong and bold polar bears,
The rulers of the North.

Refrain:
Far away in the Arctic
On the top of the world
Miles and miles of frozen sea
The wind is bitter cold.
Far away in the Arctic
Northern Lights
Shining brightly in the sky
All through the night.

Arctic Animals Worksheets

To practice the Arctic vocabulary I would like to offer you the Arctic Animals Adventure Pack of worksheets and activities which was specially designed for young learners of English as a second language to help them penetrate deeply into the language while exploring the far away land in the North. The assignments are based on the lyrics of the Arctic Animals Song, but you can use them in any discussion about winter and the Arctic. You can download the preview here.

The educational pack includes a variety of worksheets for different levels of language proficiency. Using these worksheets, children will have the opportunity:

  • to practice in spelling and writing;
  • to develop the skills of scanning the English text to find the necessary information;
  • to learn the English sentences building rules;
  • to develop the ability of creating their own expressions in English based on their thoughts and ideas.

There are also flashcards, coloring pages and interesting games you can find in the pack. Please contact me if you would like to purchase this pack as well as the mp3 of the Arctic Animals song (including the version without vocal).

Also, I would like to share some free Arctic animals worksheets from the above mentioned educational pack.

Hurray! Christmas season has come! It is the most loved and exciting time of the year that requires an intensive preparation. All children must know what is needed to feel a special and unique atmosphere of Christmas. But if you are still not sure what one needs for a fun holiday, my Christmas Fun Song for kids will certainly help you out. Just listen carefully!

Here are the Christmas Fun Song lyrics

What Do You Need for Christmas Fun?

What do you need for Christmas fun,
Christmas fun, Christmas fun?
What do you need for Christmas fun
On this frosty Christmas day?

A pail of sand?
An Easter egg?
A motor boat
Or an ice-cream cone?

No! No! No! No! No!

A holly wreath,
A jolly reindeer,
Christmas cookies
A row of stockings,
Christmas tree,
Lots of gifts,
Outside we are caroling.

What do you need for Christmas fun,
Christmas fun, Christmas fun?
What do you need for Christmas fun
On this frosty Christmas day?

A watermelon?
A big umbrella?
A birthday cake?
A farmer rake?

No! No! No! No! No!

Santa’s sleigh,
Some merry elves,
Snowflakes,
Silver bells,
Snowman,
Candy canes,
Many friends to sing and play.

I'm a Happy Snowman - Winter Song for Children

Winter is coming. And who is one of the most popular winter characters all children love? Yes, it’s a snowman! Since the times of the “Frosty the Snowman” cartoon and song the snowman has been very popular with kids in English speaking countries. I decided to write my own snowman song adapted for little children who only begin to study English as their second language. My song is called “I’m a happy Snowman” and you can listen to it in the video below.

Snowman Song Lyrics

I’m a happy Snowman,
Big and fat.
Here are my mittens,
My scarf and my hat.
I’m a happy Snowman,
Here is my nose.
I am all made of snow
From my head to my toes.
I am all made of snow
From my head to my toes.

Winter is a season when we can talk about many things with our children. The first thing is ,of course, playing in the snow. Here are some ideas and worksheets you can use during your English lessons.

Worksheet 1: This task aims at practicing the winter clothes vocabulary. Children should help the Snowman, the main character of my song, match the pictures of winter clothes with the letters they begin with. This is a very simple task which can be done even by preschoolers.

Autumn (Fall) Song for Children

Autumn (fall) is the season of colourful leaves. All children love walking in parks full of rich colours and pick up some crunchy leaves to put them together in a wonderful multicolour bunch. In my song I tried to convey the atmosphere of a warm autumn day as well as the children’s joy during the leaf-fall time. This autumn song and worksheets which you can find below can be used for English lessons to learn about seasons, autumn outdoor activities, and even Thanksgiving Day with kids.

Here are the song lyrics

Autumn leaves are falling,
Falling to the ground.
Autumn leaves are falling:
Yellow, red, and brown.

Falling, falling, falling
To the ground.
Falling, falling:
Yellow, red, and brown.

Pick them up and gather
In a pretty bunch,
Autumn leaves are falling
In the parks they crunch.

Falling, falling, falling
To the ground.
Falling, falling:
Yellow, red, and brown.

Rain Song for Kids

Autumn (Fall) is always considered to be a rainy season. Many people associate rain with a gloomy, sad weather when nobody has a desire to go outside. In my song I disagree with this opinion. The boy who is singing the song (as seen in the video below) personifies all children’s spontaneity and confidence in the future. He is happy in spite of any bad weather and any such troubles. That’s why teaching children and working close with them is an exciting and inspiring profession.

I wrote this rain song in one of such gloomy autumn days but I think it can be used also in spring and summer to learn the weather vocabulary.

I Am not Afraid of Rain
(Song Lyrics)

I am not afraid of rain,
‘Cause I have a big umbrella.
Outside the whole day
I will play in any weather.
In the rain I’m gonna walk
Let people say at home it’s better,
I will listen to the raindrops talk
Petter-patter, Petter-patter, Petter-patter.

Farm Animals Song for Kids

Animals are always an interesting topic for children especially those of younger age. Animal characters have been surrounding kids since almost birthday. That is why farm animals are likely to be an exciting thing for kids learning English in your classroom. It’s always stimulating to introduce funny animals in the process of education and overall development of communication abilities. There are a lot of fun game opportunities to develop language skills and imagination.

Farm Animals Song Lyrics

It’s a wonderful day!
Let’s go to the farm!

Hi, little cow! How are you?
I am fine, thank you.
The sun is so bright. The sky is so blue.
The grass is so green. Moo, moo, moo.

Hi, little duck! How are you?
I am fine, thank you.
What are you doing there in the lake?
I am swimming. Quack, quack, quack.

Hi, little horse! How are you?
I am great, thank you.
Would you like some fresh tasty hay?
Oh, with pleasure! Neigh, neigh.

Hi, little sheep! How are you?
I am fine, thank you.
What are you doing next to the barn?
I’m waiting for my master. Baa, baa, baa.

Hi, little dog! How are you?
Very well, thank you.
Why are you looking up on the roof?
The cat is sitting there. Woof, woof, woof.

Hi, little cat! How are you?
I am fine, thank you.
Come here and play with me right now.
I’m lying in the sun. Miaow, miaow, miaow.

Hi, little hen! How are you?
I am fine, thank you.
Why are you walking there in the yard?
I’m looking for some grains. Cluck, cluck, cluck.

Hi, little pig! How are you?
I am fine, thank you.
Why are you shining like a golden coin?
I’ve found a real one. Oink, oink, oink.

Farm Animals Worksheets

There are, of course, some worksheets to remember farm animals in English.

Worksheet 1: The first task is to circle the animal that is different. This is a very simple worksheet for children who don’t know the ABC yet. That is why it can be given even in preschool. Ask older learners to find a different animal and explain their choice using as an example the following sentence:

This sheep is different because it has got a flower.
